*Read Below about the PY3 Patch Ceremony:

Recently, on April 19, 2012, the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy PY3 students converged in the Jackson Medical Mall Conference Center to celebrate a moment that has been 3 years in the making, the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy Patch Ceremony which is co-hosted by the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The School of Pharmacy patch, worn on the left arm of the white coat, signifies the student’s completion of 3 years of pharmacy course-work training and their progression to advanced pharmacy practice rotations as part of the medical team. The students were welcomed by the new Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Dr. David Allen, and the patches were given to the students by Dr. Marvin Wilson, Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs. The keynote speaker for the ceremony was Dr. Kristie Gholson, Assistant Director of Pharmacy at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi, who emphasized that a career in pharmacy is a life-long learning experience and should be led by the three D’s: Desire, Dedication, and Determination. Also, the PY4 Class President Katie Sims presented the Jackson Free Clinic with a $5,000 donation. This generous donation was made possible through funds raised by the School of Pharmacy student body to help finance the non-profit organization’s Renovation Campaign, so that they may better serve the residents of Jackson who have inadequate access to healthcare. After the ceremony, the students and guests were treated to a reception with drinks and refreshments.
